New Tidings
I am positive that Greg Chappell would bring about a change in the waning fortunes of the Indian team. He is poles apart from John Wright, for one he was a much better cricketer, hell he was among the top three batsman in his times, 70-85, (Gavaskar and Richards being the other two). Among the current Indian team only Sachin can boast of a better career record than Greg. I have been a subscriber to his site for long and have no doubts than his knowledge and passion for the game is second to none. I am sure , under his tutelage , this team will once again be challenging the Aussies for the top spot in the Test and ODI arena.
Talking about the ODI team, I think a drastic change is needed, jaded faces have to be phased out and new blood has to be introduced. I think the Indian team for the next series should be like this:
Sehwag to open with Gambhir, Yuvraj and Kaif at 3 & 4 , Dravid to captain and bat at 5, Dhoni to keep wickets and bat at 6, JP Yadav is the best allrounder in domestic cricket and has to be picked at 7, Ramesh Powar , Ajit Agarkar , Irfan Pathan should follow, leaving the last spot to be decided between Balaji & Gagandeep Singh. Niraj Patel and Bhajji will rouund up the 14 .Sachin and Saurav should first be allowed to regain their passion for the shorter version before being considered for selection. The good thing about this team is that you dont have to hide anybody in the field. With all the bowlers having the ability to bat, you can tinker with the batting order. Yuvraj and Kaif have to bat at 3&4 or vice versa, they are are being wasted lower down the order. More importantly the infusion of these players and a new coach will help in regaining the hunger and fighting spirit in the team, and there will be no meek surrender as against Pakistan.
