Saw LOC. Thought movie was a tad too long, there were a couple of necessary songs which could have been dispensed with especially the song which has the three marquee heroes Abhishek, Saif and Ajay serenading their heroines. The movie starts of promisingly with the initaal scenes of the lost patrols, the deployment of the various troops , and the introduction to the various soldiers handled with typical JP Dutta flourish. The rousing speeches given by the various CO's Col Lalit Rai(Sudesh Berry), Lt Col YK "Joe" Joshi (Sunjay Dutt),Col Kushal Thakur(Raj Babbar), Col Umesh Singh Bawa(Kiran Kumar) to motivate their men are handled very well and are sure to raise goosebumps. then the film moves over to the personal side of the men fighting in the battle, it shows their loved ones and their internal struggles as they send of their men to war. To do justice to the multiple heroines the soldiers interactions with their wives and girldfriends are depicted through various musical interludes. The movie then moves over to the actual battles. Here I think JP loses the plot, one would expect far more authentic war scenes from the director of Border. When the audience has been exposed to the realistic war scenes in movies like Saving Private Ryan, Thin Red Line, Windtalkers, We were Soldiers Once, Enemy at the Gates , the battles depicted in Kargil fail to communicate the unsurmountable odds the Indian soldiers faced in Kargil. The fact that the Pakistani intuders had much better clothing equipment, radars , rifles is also glossed over. The acting I must say is superb with most of the actors carrying of their parts admirably with exception of Abhishek Bacchan. Manoj Bajpai, Ajay Devgan , Sunjay Dutt, Sudesh Berry, Saif , Kareena deserve special applauds. Overall the movie is a must see, if only as a way of honoring the memory of the many men who lost their lives and limbs in service of their nation.
