Achantha Sharath Kamal, created history today, becoming the first Indian to win the Commonwealth TT gold Medal in the singles competition. the paddler hailing from Andhra Pradesh held his nerve to beat aussie William Henzell in front of his home crowd in a tense encounter which went the distance of 7 games. With India winning two gold medals in the mens competition and 1 bronze in the women's, it's best ever showing at the games, hopefully the game will get a filip in the country.

It definitely needs a boost. But surprisingly enough, the traditional power houses of TT, Bengal and Assam are lagging behind. It's catching up in south but during my school days, the standard of TT in south was not a patch on the standard in the North East and perhaps, Maharashtra / Gujarat. Let's hope for the best.
I had watched the complete match and frankly was not very impressed with Kamal's play. Perhaps it was that the competition was not tough but I hope he is not the best player we have got.
